Harambee Stars U20 kicked off their CECAFA U2O Qualifiers with a 2 – 1 win over hosts Tanzania on Sunday 6th, 2024 at the KMC Stadium Dar es Salaam.

The Rising Stars took the lead in the 23rd minute when Kevin Wanganya executed a brilliant free kick from just outside the box, sending the ball past Tanzania’s goalkeeper for a well-deserved lead. This early strike infused the team with confidence, though they headed into halftime with just a one-goal advantage despite sustained pressure.

In the second half, Kenya extended their lead in the 67th minute when Andres Odhiambo unleashed a remarkable long-range shot that found the back of the net bringing the score to 2-0. However, Tanzania quickly responded in the 76th minute as Rahim Mkinyange scored, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Despite a late surge from Tanzania, Kenya’s defense stood firm allowing them to secure the crucial win.

Kenya currently sits top of Group A and will be closely watching the outcomes of the remaining matches in round one. They will face Rwanda on October 10th , 2024 at the same grounds with the game scheduled to start at 4 PM.
