IN QUEST TO REPLACE RUTO

Kalonzo Musyoka has in recent days been angling to replace President Ruto in the hearts of the Mt Kenya people. Kalonzo seems to be taking advantage of the rising anger in Mt Kenya against the Government and the feelings towards the impeachment of the Deputy President who hails from the region.

Kalonzo who has been outside Government for many years seems to have seen an opportunity and this was demonstrated by the voting patterns of Members of National Assembly and Senate close to him. He has been in the frontline in political meetings organized in the region and a vocal defender of the Mt Kenya people. The fact that there is no outright candidate from the Mountain makes Kalonzos quest even easier.

Vocal leaders like Waititu Babayao have come out in the open in support of Kalonzo candidature as their presidential candidate. The Kamba community had always voted along their Mt Kenya cousins until 2013 when Kalonzo deputized Raila Odinga and lost. There is a strong feeling within the Kamba community that by joining hands with their Mt Kenya counterparts, they stand a good chance of winning the Presidency.

It remains to be seen whether President Ruto has given up on wooing the Mt kenya voters or has some cards still to play that will win them back
